Position Summary

Under direct supervision the Health Center Director is responsible for serving as Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer (Physician) to the Washoe Tribal Health Center in its efforts to provide primary medical care to patients and to provide medical services at the Washoe Tribal Health Center. The Medical Director will directly supervise all professional providers and medical staff. Provide guidance and participate in continuous quality improvement. Participate in efforts to maintain accreditation. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited U.S. Medical school.

  • Must have current unrestricted licensure from the State of Nevada; must be specialty specific board certified or eligible; must be insurable through the Tribe’s medical malpractice carrier.

  • Must have United States Citizenship.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment.

  • Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, and National Practitioner Data Bank review.

  • Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides direct supervision over all professional providers, and medical staff including: Staff Physician, Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Practioner or PA, Pharmacist, Optometrist, Chief Dental Officer, all Allied Health Professional Providers, and Contract Providers (Podiatrist, Allergist, etc.).

  • Performs the administration duties of the position including but not limited to: approving leave, employee evaluations, etc.

  • Provides direct oversight individually or by delegation of the Pain Management Committee.

  • Provides direct oversight individually or by delegation of the Managed Care Committee.

  • Conducts individually or by delegation mid-level consultations either on-site or via telephone as needed.

  • Provides primary care medicine to all patients at the Washoe Tribal Health Center, its satellite clinics, or at designated Washoe Tribal functions.

  • Conducts comprehensive history and physical examinations.

  • Provides competent assessment of acute and chronic health problems.

  • Respects and maintains awareness of Washoe Tribal culture.

  • Performs, orders and/or interprets laboratory tests and imaging studies.

  • Continually strives to achieve target number of patient encounters as determined by the Health Center Director and Medical Director.

  • Completes medical documentation in a timely fashion.

  • Assists to secure and maintain accreditation through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC).

  • Motivates and leads the medical team in daily clinic operation and provision of quality medical care.

  • Participates and provides sound input and guidance to WTHC work groups, programs and committees in efforts to improve health care delivery.

  • Maintains current certification in BLS and ACLS.

  • Complies with applicable laws, codes and regulations.

  • Maintains continuing medical education per licensure requirements.

  • Acts as the Health Center Director and/or Office Manager in their absence, as assigned, with signature authority, as determined by the Health Center Director.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
