Position Summary

Under direct supervision the Driver provides safe, reliable, and efficient transport of TANF clients to needed appointments. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED, plus two years driving or transporting individuals and must have a good driving record.

  • Must possess a valid California or Nevada driver’s license at time of employment.

  • Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

  • Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Abides by all public safety rules and regulations as well as established internal procedures

  • Maintains vehicle.

  • Provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for TANF clients

  • Follows accepted rules for transporting eligible clients including the use of safety seats and belts.

  • Assists clients as needed.

  • Stays on planned routes, except when road conditions dictate change of plans for safe delivery of the transported individual or family.

  • Maintains vehicle mileage log as required.

  • Inspects vehicles before driving to include: gas, oil, water, and brake and transmission levels, to ensure safety of operation.

  • Performs routine safety checks on vehicles to include: operable brake lights, turn signals, tire pressure, first aid kit, and emergency road kit.

  • Checks the condition on all operating parts of vehicles, to include: tires, lights, brakes, windshield wipers, etc.

  • Reports needed vehicle repairs to Site Manager.

  • Prepares vehicle reports as required.

  • Maintains vehicle cleanliness by washing and cleaning as needed.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles may occur, and exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts and mists may occur. Prolonged sitting while driving is a daily occurrence. Evening, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required. Travel within and outside of the local area is required. Additional travel outside of the local area may be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
