Position Summary

Under direct supervision the IT Manager is responsible for the overall administration and management of the network and telecommunication infrastructure of the Washoe Tribe. This position is responsible for the supervision of IT System Administrators and Technicians. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a computer related field and five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in network management, two years of which include supervision.

  • MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer), CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or other certifications are required.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada driver’s license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment.

  • Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

  • Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensures the operation of the IT Department is in alignment with the business objectives of the organization.

  • Works closely with decision makers in other departments to recommend cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

  • Represents all areas of IT responsibility in appropriate meetings and forums.

  • Monitors and maintains the use of networks and network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls and various servers; and ensures proper operation of and access to print, file, communication, electronic mail, and other services or systems required by Washoe Tribe staff.

  • Implements and develops policies and procedures supporting the operation of network hardware and software according to accepted industry standards.

  • Keeps leadership and other departments informed of status of activities and of significant events and problems by attending meetings, submitting reports and meeting individually as necessary.

  • Informs all IT staff of management directives.

  • Participates in various forms of technical and IT management training to remain apprised of industry trends and relevant applications and services.

  • Administers contracts with vendors to ensure all required goods are provided and services are rendered in a timely manner consistent with the terms and conditions of the contracts; and to ensure that required contracts, e.g., hardware and software maintenance agreements, are in force.

  • Assists in forming procurement strategies for technology expenditures across the organization.

  • Develops and implements procedures for tracking company assets to oversee quality control throughout their lifecycles.

  • Ensures the security and integrity of data, data systems, and data networks across the entire organization.

  • Organizes off-site storage for backup tapes necessary for recovery processes utilizing current backup application including designing and implementing disaster recovery processes and business continuity procedures for re-establishing servers, databases, and operating systems in the event of a disruption, both minor and catastrophic.

  • Performs and analyzes disaster simulations for the prompt restoration of services, and conduct security audits where required.

  • Maintains all telephone systems and services, voicemail, and video conferencing environments, both internally and those integrated with Internet-based services.

  • Provides vision and leadership for developing and supporting security initiatives.

  • Directs the planning and implementation of IT system, business operation, and facility defenses against security breaches and vulnerability issues.

  • Responsible for auditing existing systems, while directing the administration of security policies, activities, and standards.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
