Position Summary

Under direct supervision the Senior Network Engineer is responsible for all day-to-day operations of virtual server infrastructure, storage devices, telecommunication and data communication equipment, to include planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network, hardware, and communication connectivity and operation. This role also encompasses network security and capacity planning. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a computer related field and minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience in network design and management, or combination of education and experience.

  • Must possess a valid California or Nevada driver’s license at time of employment. Must be able to be insurable by the Tribe’s Driving Policy.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

  • Preference will be given to Qualified Native American Indians.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Designs, implements, tests, and documents all areas pertaining to virtual server environment, databases, networks, servers, IP Telephony and video conference systems, and software applications.

  • Analyzes system or application usage and planning for growth or increases in network capacity.

  • Conducts research and provides recommendations on emerging products, services, protocols, and software.

  • Responsible for selection, configuration, monitoring, and reporting of network and server security systems.

  • Prepares and delivers daily, weekly, and/or monthly status reports to supervisor.

  • Possesses ability to be committed to superior customer service and able to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, procedures and automated systems.

  • Knowledge of the following: Cisco routers and switches including SIP voice routing, VmWare infrastructure, SAN system, Firewalls, Spam filtering, Cisco phone switch and teleconference systems, surveillance IP camera systems, Microsoft server products including Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, desktop deployment systems.

  • Implementation experience with wireless Ethernet technologies both backbone and access points.

  • Extensive knowledge of the TCP/IP suite of protocols and implementation and support of TCP/IP WAN networks and inter-networks, which support voice and data applications.

  • Extensive knowledge of Open Source systems such as Alfresco DMS, and other systems with the intent of replacing equivalent non-open source products.

  • Extensive knowledge of network and system troubleshooting tools and their use.

  • Code development experience in modern frameworks/languages desirable (Angular js, maven, node.js, JavaScript, xml).

  • Knowledge in supervising vendors and contractors engaged in developing and/or implementing systems or networks, supporting users on production systems or networks, and working directly with users and other as needed.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical people effectively and to perform tasks as directed by management.

  • Ability to work with a diverse culture, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
