Position Summary

Under direct supervision of the Diabetes Exercise Specialist or Diabetes Wellness Manager, the Wellness Associate is responsible for light cleaning, organizing the center, touring prospective patients, assisting in orientation to the offerings of the wellness center, managing patient accounts, and general computer and office-related paper processing. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information under HIPAA.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire

  • Strong verbal, writing, and analytical skills

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Must be able to work with little direct supervision

  • Must be able to work with the public, function well under pressure, and in emergencies.

  • Experience working in a health and wellness center is a plus

  • Preference will be given to qualified Native Americans

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Answering the telephone and making appointments

  • Correspondence with patients and handling concerns

  • Generating reports

  • Check-in/check-out of classes and appointments

  • Cleanliness of the overall facility including wipe down & shut down of equipment

  • Collect towels for laundering

  • Maintaining supplies throughout the facility and ordering more if needed

  • Greet all who enter the center in a cheerful manner, responding to emergency procedures and promoting a sense of enthusiasm and inclusion

  • Processing entry into specific programs

  • Be a self-starter who initiates conversation and exudes compassion

  • Ability to work and collaborate with a wide variety of people in varying stages of health

  • Quick decision making and critical thinking skills

  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment

  • Knowledge of economic, social, educational, and cultural trends in the Washoe Tribal community.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to represent the organization professionally, building respect and confidence.

  • Ability to operate computers and office machines, including software such as Microsoft Office.

Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
  • Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level.

  • The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following:

  • Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the State of Nevada or California within 30 days
